Practising breathing exercises improve breathing, reduce tension and stress and support the immune system


The body's immune system plays a pivotal role in the prevention of colds and nasal allergies. Practising the Yog Mudra and breathing exercises improve breathing, reduce tension and stress and support the immune system. The Ling Mudra when practised with Pranayam cures congestion in the chest. Sinusitis can be alleviated considerably by regular practise of these techniques.


Pranayam:Deep breathing techniques like the Bhastrika help in inhaling more oxygen into the lungs, which helps in alleviating colds, congestion, and sinus. Pranayam naturally massages the air passage in the throat and strengthens the neck tissues. Pranayam should be practised in an open-air setting. Inhale and exhale through your nose rapidly for 30 seconds to one minute. Relax for a few seconds and repeat the exercise. The breath is not restrained at any time during this kriya. This kriya can be repeated for around 7-8 times and should never be practised just after eating a meal.


Rapid Sun Breathing:The left nostril denotes the moon while the right nostril denotes the sun. Close the left nostril and inhale deeply through the right nostril. Without restraining the breath exhale through the right nostril. The entire cycle should last between 30 seconds to one minute. Repeat this kriya 5-6 times. This technique generates heat energy in the chest and helps to burn accumulated mucus and clear the nasal cavity region. This kriya must be practised outdoors.


Ling Mudra:Join both palms and entwine the fingers together. Keep your right thumb straight and upright. The upright thumb must be encircled by the other thumb and index finger. This mudra increases the fire element of the body which causes an increase in the amount of heat energy generated in the body. The practise of the Ling Mudra helps in curing cold infections and also heals chest complications arising out of cough tridosh.

Try this simple exercise in the morning, as u get out of bed. S-T-R-E-T-C-H! You will discover how rejuvenating it is and how painless. And that is Yoga basically is a series of gentle stretch exercises. So forget the 'Trendies' who say that to be beautiful, one must undergo pain.

Yoga is the one form of exercise that is kind to your muscles and does not leave you gasping for breath. It is the only exercise tht keeps age at bay and your mind serene in this highly stressed world. This fitness concept devised by Patanjali , a great man of wisdom, hundred of years ago, has created a revolution even in western countries.

Lets call it Yogacise. The origins of Yogacise lie in HathaYoga, the branch of yoga that deals with purification and disciplining of the body. The word 'Yoga' meaning 'union', 'Ha' meaning Sun,'tha' meaning 'moon'. The sun and moon stand for the positive and negative forces that are brought together and unified throught various postures and breathing exercises. Yogacise is a discipline that will bring well being and fitness to everyone , whether the person is 5, 14, 40,65 or even older.

Ideal Yoga wear :

Since Yogacise involves lots of bending, lying down and stretching, loose and comfortable clothing is recommended. The indian cotton salwar kameez is best suited.

Ideal Time and Place :

The concentration required in Yogacise automatically demands a quiet atmosphere - a room, your terrace , your garden or even the seaside make good place.

Since Yogacise is a series of slowly performed exercises and therefore needs concentration. Please make sure that the stomach is empty. If you have eaten wait for 2 to 3 hours before exercising. However a half an hour is enough if you have only had a juice which digests faster.

Yogacise should not be done on cold floor. Use a mat or carpet. Exercise is best done in the morning. However anytime is yoga time if your stomach is empty and your body is rested. Breath control, when to inhale and when to exhale is very important.

Frequency of Yogacise :

Yogacise, should be done slowly and this requires a good muscle control and concentration. You can work upto once or twice in a week and then increase the frequency to atleast three times a week. Of course, the daily Yogacise is ideal. The postures practised over a period of time will become easier and you will find that your visits to the doctor will decrease.

Spinach and Cauliflower Pizza


Ingredients :

pizza bread - 2
cauliflower - 250 gm
spinach - 1 bundle
onion - 1
green chillie paste - 1/2 tsp
garlic flakes - 2
capsicum rings - few
salt - to taste

for white sauce:

milk - 2 cups
wheat flour - 2 tbsp
butter - 1-2 tsp
salt
pepper

Method :

Heat the butter, add wheat flour and roast. Then slowly
add milk taking care tht no lumps are formed. Stir
continuously till milk thickens. Add salt and pepper and
keep aside. Cut and boil cauliflower. Chop onions and
garlic and add all vegetables to white sauce. Add little
salt. Spread the mixture over the pizza bread and
decorate with capsicum rings. Bake in hot oven at
150 C for 15-20 minutes.

Open Sandwich


Ingredients :


brown bread slices toasted - 4
boiled mix vegetables - 1 cup
thick curds - 1 cup
tomato ketchup - 2 tbsp
salt and pepper to taste
cabbage leaves -4


Method :

Mix curds with vegetables, salt, cabbage, pepper and
tomato ketchup. Place leaf on each slice (toasted) and
then put the filling . Serve with tea or coffee.

Sandwich



Ingredients :


brown bread slices - 8
shredded cucumber - 4 tbsp
shredded beetroot - 4 tbsp
tomatoes sliced - 2
butter - 4 tsp
for dry chutney:
pepper corns - 3
jeera - 1 tsp
amchur or dry mango powder - 1/2 tsp
mustard powder - 1/2 tsp
salt to taste
Method :
Butter the bread slices. Spread cucumber, beet and
tomatoes on one slice. Sprinkle little dry chutney(Mix
all the ingredients together). Cover with another
slice . Serve with Tomato ketchup.

Cottage Cheese Burger


burger breads - 2
tomato - 2 slices
onion - 2 slices
for the filling:
thick curds - 1 1/2 cups
shredded cabbage - 1 cup
green chillie+ginger paste - 1 tsp
jeera - 1/2 tsp
lemon juice - 1/2 tsp
salt to taste
butter - 2 tsp
Hang curds in a muslin cloth for 4-5 hrs. Add shredded
cabbage, ginger-chillie paste and all other dry ingredients.
Add lemon juice and form round cutlets. Roast the
cutlets on a non stick pan on both sides. Then apply a little
butter on it. Place it on burger bread(half cut). Place a
slice of onion and tomato. Cover with remaining bread.
Grill in the oven for ten minutes.
