HOW REIKI HELPSReiki can provide a straight forward and simple way of healing long-term disorders and conditions. Reiki is said to be particularly useful for people suffering from medical conditions that orthodox medicine often can do little to cure, such as eczema, asthma, allergy, headaches, migraines, back pain, and arthritis.
All of these conditions are common and widespread, yet can be debilitating and depressing. Reiki practitioners believe that these conditions may simply be outer symptoms of an inner disease. They may indicate a lack of balance and blockages in the energy within the body that Reiki has the power to heal.
Reiki can also be used to provide instant and immediate aid in cases of shock. It may relieve the pain and symptoms of injury, such as bruising and help to promote quicker healing.
As well as helping to ease physical problems, practicing Reiki on yourself or receiving Reiki from a practitioner can promote a sense of mental well-being and help to relieve conditions arising from modern living such as stress.
A SENSE OF BELONGING Reiki also works on the emotional and spiritual levels of our being, helping us to put right what is wrong in our lives. All of us need to acknowledge the different levels of existence and recognize that we are more than practical beings who exist simply to work, bring up children, and look after our homes. As part of human life, we need to engage in relationships within the family, with parents, friends, and acquaintances and with colleagues at work. We also may need or want to take part in the affairs and activities of our local community.
In order to be able to play a full role within life, we need to be and feel whole within ourselves. Reiki is said to be able to help with this, and this in its turn can also enable us to help others with their lives and be more compassionate towards those in difficulty or pain.
We all need love, security, balance, and a sense of belonging. Reiki practitioners and masters believe that Reiki can offer us this. At its best, Reiki can help us to find our place within the universe, helping us to foster a sense of trust and balance.
THE SIMPLICITY OF REIKI Such is the accessibility of Reiki that everyone, no matter who they are, what they do, or what their state of health, can receive it, learn it, and practice it. Reiki is not an academic subject to learn, and you do not need any special equipment in order to give the healing. All you need is a sincere commitment to help others and to help yourself to progress and develop.
REIKI FOR EVERYONE People who have learned Reiki include teachers, builders, doctors, computer operators, farm workers, engineers, therapists, and students.
Even children can learn to give Reiki and because the technique do not require any particular level of fitness or mobility, so too can the elderly and people who live with chronic illnesses.
THE REIKI DEGREES Reiki teachings is generally divided into three main levels in order to help those who are learning the practice to access the energy at a responsible pace. Level 3 is sometimes split into two stages, and is described as level 3 and 4.
LEVEL 1
Level can be defined as hands-on healing for oneself or others
LEVEL 2
Level 2 is distant healing
LEVEL 3
Level 3, also known as Master’s I, focuses on spiritual deepening.
LEVEL 4
Level 4 is Master Teacher
Reiki proponents believe that it is important to assimilate fully the teachings of each level before going on to explore the next. The journey through the Reiki levels should be undertaken with guidance, care and joy, so that understanding and consciousness can be developed, deepened and strengthened gradually.
A LIFELONG COMMITMENT The primary function of the first level of Reiki is self-healing and self-development. However, it is also possible to practice Reiki on others, such as family and friends, after just one weekend of training by a Reiki Master.
Reiki could be said to be not so much taught as experienced by the student. The teacher gives each student four attunements, placing the sacred symbols in a certain order and in a certain way to balance the appropriate chakras. This involves a sacred ritual which is said to allow people to contact their own inner truth and spiritual dimension.
As well as being attuned, students learn the hand positions for self-healing and treating others, and discuss the responsibilities of being a student of healing. After training, practitioners are asked to continue with their own self-development. This may include going to regular support and practice groups and studying. Practicing regular self-healing treatment after training helps to improve the flow of energy through the body, and is therefore thought to help students through the period of adjustment after the attunement.
Once students have assimilated and practiced the teachings of Reiki 1 for a length of time, may go on to learn Reiki 2, which enables them to give distant healing to others. They may also decide to develop Reiki further and become a Master. Ideally, one should undergo a lengthy apprenticeship before taking this step. Reiki Masters believe that becoming a Master involves a lifelong commitment because of the role a Master may play in helping others to change their lives.
