Yoga and Yogacise...

What it's all about...

Try this simple exercise in the morning, as u get out of bed. S-T-R-E-T-C-H! You will discover how rejuvenating it is and how painless. And that is Yoga basically is a series of gentle stretch exercises. So forget the 'Trendies' who say that to be beautiful, one must undergo pain.

Yoga is the one form of exercise that is kind to your muscles and does not leave you gasping for breath. It is the only exercise tht keeps age at bay and your mind serene in this highly stressed world. This fitness concept devised by Patanjali , a great man of wisdom, hundred of years ago, has created a revolution even in western countries.

Lets call it Yogacise. The origins of Yogacise lie in HathaYoga, the branch of yoga that deals with purification and disciplining of the body. The word 'Yoga' meaning 'union', 'Ha' meaning Sun,'tha' meaning 'moon'. The sun and moon stand for the positive and negative forces that are brought together and unified throught various postures and breathing exercises. Yogacise is a discipline that will bring well being and fitness to everyone , whether the person is 5, 14, 40,65 or even older.

The rich rewards of Yogacise :

> It helps you to lose weight all over and in specific areas of your body.
> It helps you to relax.
> It has brought relief to women with backaches forever if its done regularly.
> It helps you to sleep better and is especially beneficial to insomniacs who will definitely sleep
more soundly.
> It improves blood circulation and breathing. Acc to Yoga, breath is life and energy.
> Each exercise massages and thus tones up a particular organ in the body.
> It improves indigestion.
> It brings a glow to the skin and works wonders on skin texture and facial lines.

Ideal Yoga wear :

Since Yogacise involves lots of bending, lying down and stretching, loose and comfortable clothing is recommended. The indian cotton salwar kameez is best suited.

Ideal Time and Place :

The concentration required in Yogacise automatically demands a quiet atmosphere - a room, your terrace , your garden or even the seaside make good place.

Since Yogacise is a series of slowly performed exercises and therefore needs concentration. Please make sure that the stomach is empty. If you have eaten wait for 2 to 3 hours before exercising. However a half an hour is enough if you have only had a juice which digests faster.

Yogacise should not be done on cold floor. Use a mat or carpet. Exercise is best done in the morning. However anytime is yoga time if your stomach is empty and your body is rested. Breath control, when to inhale and when to exhale is very important.

Frequency of Yogacise :

Yogacise, should be done slowly and this requires a good muscle control and concentration. You can work upto once or twice in a week and then increase the frequency to atleast three times a week. Of course, the daily Yogacise is ideal. The postures practised over a period of time will become easier and you will find that your visits to the doctor will decrease.
